Twin-Falls
is located in Twin Falls County in south-central Idaho. It is the largest city in Idahos Magic Valley Region and is the seventh largest city in the state. As of the 2000 census, the population was 40,380 residents. It is, in fact, the largest city in a 100-mile radius and serves as a regional commercial center for both south-central Idaho and northeastern Nevada. The Snake River Canyon forms the citys northern limits, separating it from Jerome County. There are three waterfalls in the immediate area: Shoshone Falls is located approximately five miles east of Twin Falls city. Pillar Falls is located approximately 1.5 miles upstream from the Perrine Bridge and Twin Falls, the citys namesake, is located upstream of Shoshone Falls. Shoshone Falls is known as the Niagara Falls of the west, and is one of the most impressive falls along the Snake River. The falls is nearly 1500-feet wide and has a drop of 212 feet, making it an even longer drop than that of Niagara Falls, which drops 176 feet. Shoshone Falls Park has several scenic overlooks, along with hiking trails, picnicking and playground equipment. The Snake River Canyon is also where Evil Knievel made his famous jump attempt with his Sky-Cycle in 1974. The jump was unsuccessful, but Knievel walked away with minor injuries. The much smaller Bridal Veil Falls is also located in Shoshone Falls Park.
