Cascade
is a small town of approximately 1,000 residents, nestled in Valley County in south-central Idaho. The town sits at an elevation of 4,780 feet along the North Fork of the Payette River. It is about 75 miles north of Boise on Highway 55. The town also lies on the southeast shore of Lake Cascade, formerly known as Cascade Reservoir. Numerous outdoor activities are available in the region, beginning at Lake Cascade, which is one of the largest lakes in Idaho. In addition, there are over 250 smaller lakes and streams in the area. Recreational possibilities include fishing, swimming, boating and sailing, water skiing, ice fishing, hiking, mountain biking, camping and picnicking. The list goes on and on. Many natural hot springs surround Cascade, including the recently developed Gold Fork Hot Springs. The Wildlife Scenic Byway-Highway 55 was recently designated for its natural beauty and abundance of wildlife. It follows the North Fork of the Payette River all the way into the town of Cascade. Other nearby attractions include Roosevelt Lake, Thunder Mountain Train, Snow Bank Mountain Radar Station and sleigh rides to feed the elk. Cascade has a variety of lodging choices, along with restaurants and several gift shops. The town is host to the annual 4th of July Thunder Mountain Days, which features a Main Street parade and fireworks display over Lake Cascade.

Cascade Weather & Climate

Central Idaho has a four season climate with warm summers, cool winters and low humidity throughout the state. The four seasons are distinct in all parts of Idaho, but not simultaneous. Spring comes earlier and winter later to central Idaho, which is protected from severe weather by nearby mountains and call themselves "banana belts." Eastern Idaho has a more continental climate, with more extreme temperatures; climatic conditions there and elsewhere vary with the elevation. Precipitation averages 13 inches per year in the south and over 30 inches in the north. Much greater accumulations of snow are experienced in the mountains. Much of the central plains of the lower elevations of central Idaho receive less than 10 inches of precipitation annually.
