Elkhorn-Village
is located in Sun Valley at the base of the Dollar/Elkhorn Mountains of the Sawtooth Range. This bedroom-community is just south of Sun Valley Village. Sun Valley is an international ski destination that offers abundant snow-related activities, as well as many other outdoor recreational opportunities. Amenities at Elkhorn Village include a golf course, tennis courts, an outdoor hot tub, sauna and steam room and an Olympic-size outdoor swimming pool. Currently, there are no shops or restaurants available in Elkhorn Village, but it is near many of the other Sun Valley communities that offer shopping and restaurants. Sun Valley is well known for skiing at Bald Mountain, which has a summit of 9,150 feet and a vertical drop of 3400 feet. It has often been referred to as the best single ski mountain in the world. The Elkhorn Village area also offers hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Depending on the exact location within Elkhorn Village, it is between a two and a half-mile to five-mile drive to the River Run area of Bald Mountain. During the wintertime, Elkhorn Village is usually more affordable than any of the other communities of the Sun Valley area. Sun Valley is also near the Sawtooth National Recreational Area, which is accessed via the Sawtooth Scenic Byway.

Elkhorn Village Weather & Climate

Southeastern Idaho has a four-season climate. The area's precipitation is approximately 20-30 inches, which is among the highest in southern Idaho. This unusually high precipitation is due to the unique geography of southern Idaho and Yellowstone. The Snake River Plain was formed by the Yellowstone hot spot across southern Idaho, and it forms a moisture channel that extends from the Pacific Ocean to Yellowstone area. This southeastern corner at the head of the Snake River Plain and at the end of the Yellowstone moisture channel gets as much snow as the typical ski towns of Colorado. In contrast, summers are hot and humidity is low throughout the state. Occasionally, moisture-laden air from the south produces thunderstorms.

The closest airports in the area are the Friedman Memorial airport (SUN) located about 12 miles south of Elkhorn Village in Hailey, Idaho, the Arco Butte County airport (AOC) located approximately 50 miles east of Elkhorn Village in Arco, Idaho, the Jerome County airport (JER) located roughly 66 miles south of Elkhorn Village in Jerome, Idaho, and finally the Bruce Meadows airport (U63) located around 70 miles northwest of Elkhorn Village in Stanley, Idaho.
