Hailey
is located in the Wood River Valley region of central Idaho. It is one of the fastest growing communities in the state due to its location near the resort area of Sun Valley/Ketchum. In fact, it is the site of the Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN) which is the airport for the Sun Valley region. The population of Hailey was 6,200 residents as of the 2000 census. The town of Hailey is surrounded by the Sawtooth National Forest and has its own ski mountain called Rotarun Ski Hill. Other mountains in Hailey include Caronate, Quigley, Red Devil and Della, which are all popular for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and other outdoor activities. Hailey also features a nationally known skateboard park, which appeared in Thrasher magazine and has been visited by professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. Each year the town of Hailey hosts the Days of the Old West on the 4th of July. The celebration consists of four main events: At noon, a skit with a shoot out is put on in the center of town. There is also a parade, a rodeo and a huge fireworks display at night. Other special events in Hailey include the Northern Rockies Folk Festival and the annual Hailey Antiques Market.

Hailey Weather & Climate
Southeastern Idaho has a four-season climate. The area's precipitation is approximately 20-30 inches, which is among the highest in southern Idaho. This unusually high precipitation is due to the unique geography of southern Idaho and Yellowstone. The Snake River Plain was formed by the Yellowstone hot spot across southern Idaho, and it forms a moisture channel that extends from the Pacific Ocean to Yellowstone area. This southeastern corner at the head of the Snake River Plain and at the end of the Yellowstone moisture channel gets as much snow as the typical ski towns of Colorado. In contrast, summers are hot and humidity is low throughout the state. Occasionally, moisture-laden air from the south produces thunderstorms.
