American-Falls
is a small city of approximately 4,000 residents, located in southeast Idaho. It lies on the banks of the Snake River and the shores of the American Falls Reservoir. The town was originally settled as a supply stop along the Oregon Trail, which passed just north of town, through the present-day reservoir. American Falls has the distinction of being the first town in the United States to be entirely relocated; it was moved in 1925 to facilitate construction of the nearby American Falls Dam. The old town site sits at the bottom of the reservoir, northeast of the present town. Outdoor recreation abounds in the American Falls area. The Snake River and the reservoir offer many opportunities for boating and fishing. The Willow Bay Marina complex offers camping, boat launch facilities and a restaurant. Massacre Rocks State Park, which is just ten miles west of American Falls on I-86, offers camping, river access, hiking, fishing and birdwatching. The town of American Falls also has a 9-hole golf course. For winter sports enthusiasts, skiing and snowmobiling is found in the nearby towns of Rockland and Arbon, with Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, Pebble Creek and Pomerelle within a three-hour drive. The city of American Falls is also just 23 miles west of Pocatello, a city of 50,000 that is home to Idaho State University and offers many more opportunities for shopping, dining and entertainment.

American Falls Weather & Climate
Southeastern Idaho has a four-season climate. The area's precipitation is approximately 20-30 inches, which is among the highest in southern Idaho, although the area is not in the mountains. This unusually high precipitation is due to the unique geography of southern Idaho and Yellowstone. The Snake River Plain was formed by the Yellowstone hot spot across southern Idaho, and it forms a moisture channel that extends from the Pacific Ocean to Yellowstone area. This southeastern corner at the head of the Snake River Plain and at the end of the Yellowstone moisture channel gets as much snow as the typical ski towns of Colorado. In contrast, summers are hot and humidity is low. Occasionally, moisture-laden air from the south produces thunderstorms.
