Blanchard
is a small, unincorporated town located at the southern end of Bonner County in the northern panhandle region of Idaho. The population of the community is approximately 1,000 full time residents. Blanchard has a history rich in logging and many regional historic sites are named after Blanchards early pioneers. Blanchard is also home to a 650-acre development known as Stoneridge, which is a golf and recreational community. Just minutes from the town is the International Selkirk Loop, which was named "the Northwests Most Scenic Drive" by Sunset Magazine. Blanchard is also near Blanchard Lake, which is an excellent fishing lake and also a lovely spot for a hike or picnic. In August, the community hosts Blanchard Daze, a fun family event with an arts and crafts fair, a pancake breakfast, stock horse races, childrens games and live music and other entertainment. This region of Idaho is full of scenic beauty and absent are the crowds and noise of the bigger cities. The entire county has a population of only 41,000 and the largest city is Sandpoint, population 6, 835. The major industry of the region is tourism and other nearby attractions include Lake Pend Oreille and Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort. The town of Sandpoint is also home to the largest film festival in the Inland Northwest, the Schweitzer Lakedance International Film Festival.

Northern Idaho has a distinct four-season climate. Located within the northern latitude, Idaho's Northern Panhandle has summer days that are long and sunny, with just enough rain to keep things very green and pretty. Temperatures can range from very warm in the summer to very cold in the winter. The major mountain ranges accumulate a deep snow cover in the winter. In spring, the melting snow pack provides irrigation water for the lower regions of the state. The major source of moisture for northern Idaho is the Pacific Ocean, although in summer there are some exceptions when moisture-laden air is brought in from the south.
