Harrison
is a small town located in Kootenai County in the northern panhandle of Idaho. The population as of the 2000 census was 267 residents. Harrison was incorporated in 1899 and, at one time, was the largest city on Lake Coeur dAlene. In 1917, a major fire destroyed about half of the residential area of Harrison, as well as a number of businesses. Most of the town was never rebuilt. This historic little town sits at the mouth of the Coeur dAlene River on the eastern shore of Coeur dAlene Lake. In the summertime, Harrison comes alive with boaters, campers and bicyclists, who come to visit the beautiful lake. Scenic Byway 97 meanders along the eastern shoreline of Coeur dAlene Lake, where travelers enjoy frequent sightings of bald eagles, osprey, moose, elk and other wildlife along the way. Just before entering Harrison from the north on Highway 97, the road crosses over the scenic Coeur dAlene River, where the Trail of the Coeur dAlene Springston Trailhead can be accessed for cycling, roller blading, walking and sight-seeing. The city park in Harrison overlooks the beach, bike path, marina and lake. Amenities in Harrison include restaurants, art, gift and souvenir shops, bike rentals, a marina, lodging and a local night club.

Northern Idaho has a distinct four-season climate. Located within the northern latitude, Idaho's Northern Panhandle has summer days that are long and sunny, with just enough rain to keep things very green and pretty. Temperatures can range from very warm in the summer to very cold in the winter. The major mountain ranges accumulate a deep snow cover in the winter. In spring, the melting snow pack provides irrigation water for the lower regions of the state. The major source of moisture for northern Idaho is the Pacific Ocean, although in summer there are some exceptions when moisture-laden air is brought in from the south.
