Nampa
is a city located in Canyon County in southwest Idaho. It is the second largest city in the state, after Boise, with an estimated population of 79,249. Nampa is located about twenty miles west of Boise along Interstate 84 and six miles west of Meridan. The name "Nampa" comes from a Shoshone word meaning "moccasin" or "footprint." The city of Nampa is home to 24 parks, the largest being Lakeview Park. In addition, the Nampa Recreation Center offers a six-pool aquatics center, three gymnasiums, a walking track, weight and exercise room, a climbing wall and many other activities. The Idaho Center in Nampa is a 10,500-seat amphitheater that is used for horse shows, track and field events and used to host the Snake River Stampede Rodeo, which is held the third week of July every year. The Snake River Stampede is considered one of the nations top rodeos. Other attractions in Nampa include the Deer Flat Wildlife Refuge at Lake Lowell, the Warhawk Air Museum, the Hispanic Cultural Center and the Canyon County Historical Museum in the Old Historic Train Depot. Each Saturday, May through October, Nampa also holds a Farmers Market on Front Street in front of the train depot. Youll find everything from fresh, locally grown produce to unique handcrafted items for sale. Nampa is just a short drive to Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and the Snake River, which offers world class whitewater rafting or jet boat trips down the rapids through the scenic canyon.

Southwest Idaho has a climate that is characterized as semi-arid with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and dry and temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F. Winters are cold with moderate amounts of snowfall. Rain is usually infrequent and light, averaging an inch per month. March is the wettest month of the year with an average of 1.41 inches of precipitation. August is the driest month of the year. Spring and fall are generally temperate and quite pleasant. Humidity is low year-round. Rain and snow together in the region average only about 12 inches per year. Spring comes earlier and winter later in this region that is protected from severe weather by nearby mountains.
