Rexburg
is a city in Madison County in southeast Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the population was 17,257 residents. Called Americas Family Community, Rexburg is the gateway to the Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Being at the crossroads of so many state and national parks means many activities and recreational opportunities available in the Rexburg area. Attractions in the city include the Westwood Theater, which dates to 1917 when it showed silent films and hosted Vaudeville shows. Today, the city is refurbishing the theater to bring back the look and feel of the roaring 20s. The city of Rexburg Teton Flood Museum, which includes the Rexburg Childrens Museum, is located in the basement of the historic Tabernacle on Center Street. The purpose of the museum is to tell the story of the town, of which, the flood of June, 1976, is a significant component. The museum also contains many artifacts of the area and an interactive childrens exhibit with hands-on displays and activities for children under the age of 12. Other places of interest in Rexburg include the Legacy Flight Museum, Splash Park, and Centennial Carousel, located in Porter Park. Recreational activities in the area include fishing, boating, golf, tennis, swimming, skiing, snowmobiling, scenic drives and camping.

Rexburg Weather & Climate

The upper corner of southeastern Idaho has a unique four-season climate. The area's precipitation is approximately 20-30 inches, which is among the highest in southern Idaho, although the area is not in the mountains. This unusually high precipitation is due to the unique geography of southern Idaho and Yellowstone. The Snake River Plain was formed by the Yellowstone hot spot across southern Idaho, and it forms a moisture channel that extends from the Pacific Ocean to Yellowstone area. This southeastern corner at the head of the Snake River Plain and at the end of the Yellowstone moisture channel gets as much snow as the typical ski towns of Colorado. In contrast, summers are hot and humidity is low throughout the state.

The closest airports in the area are the Idaho Falls Regional airport (IDA) located about 25 miles southwest of Rexburg in Idaho Falls, Idaho, the Driggs Reed Memorial airport (U59) located approximately 34 miles east of Rexburg in Driggs, Idaho, the Yellowstone airport (WYS) located roughly 68 miles northeast of Rexburg in West Yellowstone, Montana, and finally the Pocatello Regional airport (PIH) located around 75 miles southwest of Rexburg in Pocatello, Idaho.
