Teton-Valley
is an area located on the west slope of the Teton Mountain Range. It lies against the 13,000-foot mountain peaks and is comprised of the cities of Victor, Driggs, and Tetonia, Idaho, as well as Alta, Wyoming. Teton Valley shares the Grand Tetons with the more famous Jackson Hole, Wyoming, but the Teton Valley is known as the quiet side of the Tetons. With easy access to two national parks and three national forests, Teton Valley has a wide variety of wildlife, an abundance of recreational activities and cultural arts. The Teton Range is home to some of the regions best single-track mountain bike trails, and the mountains provide the ideal backdrop for hiking, horseback riding, golf, whitewater rafting, camping or a quiet float down the river. The gentle, flat course of the Teton River attracts people from all over the world for quality, dry, fly-fishing. On the Fourth of July, people from all over the country make the trip to Teton Valley to participate in the annual Summer Festival. This four-day festival includes a hot air balloon rally, old time fiddlers contest, craft fair, antiques show, a rodeo, parade, community breakfast and barbecue, and fireworks, of course. In winter, the mountains surrounding Teton Valley boast an average of 500 inches of super-light snow. Winter sports enthusiasts enjoy Alpine or Nordic skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and back-country skiing. There are several competitions at Teton Valley during the winter months, including the Nordic Skiing Teton Ridge Classic.

Teton Valley Weather & Climate

Southeastern Idaho has a unique four-season climate. The area's precipitation is approximately 20-30 inches, which is among the highest in southern Idaho. This unusually high precipitation is due to the unique geography of southern Idaho and Yellowstone. The Snake River Plain was formed by the Yellowstone hot spot across southern Idaho, and it forms a moisture channel that extends from the Pacific Ocean to Yellowstone area. This southeastern corner at the head of the Snake River Plain and at the end of the Yellowstone moisture channel gets as much snow as the typical ski towns of Colorado. In contrast, summers are hot and humidity is low throughout the state. Occasionally, moisture-laden air from the south produces thunderstorms.
